The first day back after the exams is very tiring because I didn’t have to get up so early during the exams.
It doesn’t help that Monday is busy day. The maths extension 2 class meant that it was 5:20 by the time I got home. The teacher was expecting the class to do homework on the same day too. Not like I can possibly get anything done today. Anne suggested doing the homework on the train, and I tried. I managed to do a few questions, but the train gets crowded once it gets to the city, and I can’t really write with someone sitting next to me. I’ll have time to do it tomorrow, but I already have homework from the maths class this morning… Too much maths! If the class really starts to go until 5, I don’t think I’ll even be able to make it to my fabric class on time after it.
Well, somehow I managed to not be too tired during my fabric class. We’re doing discharge today, and that’s a new thing, we didn’t do that last term. It’s basically just bleaching. At first I couldn’t even get the (child-proof) lid of the bleach bottle.
“I guess it’s Kerry proof as well” – Anna
At least the material that I bought actually discharges well.

| At first, Marion said that the pattern on this looks like intestines. Doesn’t help that Marguerite remembers what subjects I do at school, so she went like “well she’s a biologist isn’t she?” | ![]() |
I guess this class just isn’t for someone who does all three sciences at school. Just the fact that I do science at school has almost became a joke here. They all know that this class is supposed to give me some balance from all the maths and science, but I guess I’m just naturally unbalanced. It was already a sign that nothing will balance me out when I practised doing mole equations (for the exams) with the naphtol recipe, and now this.
I made a stencil with paper, and it fell apart by the end of the lesson, but at least it worked well:
You know you’re not doing well when… you have an hour left for your economics exam, but you don’t have anything left to write.
Oh well, at least the exams are over.
Between the two exams, there was this teacher (who I don’t know) that came up to me and said “love your work!”, I don’t even know who he is. Now that’s weird. It was the same teacher who went “Where should you be? Oh you have exams don’t you? I thought you’re skipping assembly” yesterday morning.
I’ll put this up because Alex and Libby are probably expecting it:
I’m actually quite glad that the maths exam today took me most of the two hours to do. I only had ten minutes left at the end. I panicked a bit halfway through, but I’d rather be rushing than sit there and shiver. All the exams I had last week, I finished early, and luckily it wasn’t too cold last week. I mean, for biology I had an hour left at the end. On the cover of the chemistry paper it said 90 minutes, and the invigilator said it was a typing error and it should be 2 hours, but I think may be it was right after all; we were just given all that extra time.
Anyway, guess where I went today… As if I ever go anywhere else on Monday, you know what to expect.
We’re doing naphtol today, so I had to stitch up something for it. I tried doing stars:
They’re not turning out right though. Now I have another top that looks like I’ve spilled paint on it. It’s a real pain to remove all the stitches too.
Well, at least I have something that is turning out alright. It’s surprising how I actually got pale colours with naphtol. Normally it gives bright colours (that’s why everything I do with naphtol looks like I’ve spilled paint on it) and that’s what everyone else got, but apparently I have polycotton (cotton / polyester blend) that doesn’t absorb the dye as well as cotton does. As for the skirt, I have no idea what material it is because there’s no tag.

Potts Hall wasn’t cold at all! That means I have nothing to worry about for the exams, since I don’t actually worry about the exams themselves.
Well, the English exam was probably more worrying after I finished it, because somehow I had half an hour left at the end. Top sign that I haven’t wrote enough?
Oh well, there’s still paper two tomorrow. Oh no. There’s no way I can remember all the quotes. May be I am worried after all.
Well, I can’t be that worried. I still went to the fabric class. In fact, guess who’s only doing 13 units, not having exams right now, but still stressed? I’m doing 14 units and I’m having my exams and I’m not stressed.
Anyway, I put wax on the piece that I did last week.
I don’t think it’s coming out that well, I shouldn’t have painted it purple.
With all the wax that I put on it, I’m going to have so much ironing to do. We’re doing naphthol next week too, so I have to sew and iron all in one weekend, and I have the maths exam on Monday too. Monday is always busy day…
In January when all my friends in SIS had their mock exams, I left. I had a month off school because it was summer holiday over here. Now my friends are enjoying their summer holiday, and I have to revise for my yearly exam. Really, what comes around goes around! My turn to suffer, my turn to struggle, my turn to be stressed?
Now, in reality I don’t really feel that stressed. In fact, I’m probably more worried about the exam room being too cold, since the first thing that comes to mind when I think of exams is the exam room being too cold. That came from when I was in year 10, we had mock exams in April, and it was fairly warm so the air conditioning was turned right up. It didn’t help that most of the exams at that stage were easy enough so that I would finish in half the time given and end up sitting there shivering for half an hour. As for the exams coming up, it’s winter so it’ll be cold, but at least I’ll be wearing winter uniform. This time, I won’t have time to sit there shivering; I’ll be writing as fast as I could, worrying that I’ll run out of time.
I won’t have to worry about getting to school the way I did when I was in year 10, since I go to school on public transport anyway. Of course, I’ll probably get out earlier than I need to and end up sitting around waiting for a long time.
At the end, I still don’t really worry about the exam itself. I just don’t. It’s not because I feel confident either. I guess some things never change, I’m like that. May be I’ll act worried when I see my friends being nervous, but I won’t know if I’m just acting like that to avoid standing out too much.
I spilled hydrochloric acid on my skirt during chemistry class. The girls in the class were like “are you OK?” “did you spill sodium hydroxide [which the teacher warned us about] on yourself?” and I kept saying no to everything, until the teacher asked what I spilled on myself. At that time, I already cleaned most of the acid off my skirt with water, but the teacher seemed to be overreacting even more than I was.
Monday is busy day! Today it was 17:20 when I got home, and of course I have to pack my school bag and then get ready to go out again. Good thing that Tuesday is always my least busy day.

This is what I did today. It started out as swirls on a plain white piece, now it’s so dark… A bit of a change from all those pastel colours… I’m probably going to put wax on it and paint more over it next week.
Wow, it’s been a year since I’ve joined Advicenators! I remember seeing it start, only I didn’t join right away. I did join eventually (obviously), and I became a level 1 moderator almost as soon as I’ve been there for 2 months. Now the site is maintained by a different person, and I still go to it, although I usually just rate questions. If things keep going like this I won’t be able to keep rating questions for long.
Why does everyone type Chinese in Shift-JIS encoding? By the way, does the Chinese on this page (click the link to see) display properly for everyone?
